Allowing Home Runs Continues to keep the Clippers from getting the win

In his first start since being optioned to the Columbus Clippers (37-47) on Aug. 8th, J.C. Mejia struck out 7 batters and gave up 3 earned runs in 5 innings as the Clippers lose 7-4 to the Toledo Mud Hens (48-37) Wednesday at Huntington Park. Toledo is now in first place in the AAA Midwest division. The Clippers are now tied in 5th in the AAA Midwest division with the Iowa Cubs.

Giving up home run continues to keep the Clippers from getting the win. Each of the Clippers 3 pitchers gave up 1 home runs Wednesday bringing the Clippers team total to 133 home runs allowed this season. Mejia (0-2) was given the loss after giving up three earned runs in five innings.

The Mud Hens racked up 9 hits in the game including 2 each from Rodriguez and Yariel Gonzalez. Centeno hit a 2-run shot in the top of the 2nd inning, and in the 4th Cole Peterson notched an RBI single to stretch the lead to 3-0. Daz Cameron hit an RBI double and Kody Clemens picked up an RBI single in the 6th as the Mud Hens went up 5-2. Stewart and Rodriguez each hit solo homers in the 7th and 9th innings closing out the game with 7 runs for the Mud Hens.

Offensively the Clippers batters only struck out 4 times. But it was only Gabriel Arias and Yu Change that managed multi-hit games. Yu Chang was 2-for-3 (.322) for the day with a 2-run homer and 4 RBI's. Chang's homer in the 5th cut the Clippers' deficit to 3-2. But they could never catch the Mud Hens.
