The Columbus Clippers (43-48) win their 6th straight game in a row as they ran all over the Storm Chasers (49-42) for a final score of 8-3. That puts the Storm Chasers 2 games back and puts them in 3rd place of the AAA Midwest division. The Clippers have moved up and are now tied for 4th place in the AAA Midwest division with the Indianapolis Indians who are 44-49.
Kirk McCarty was the starting pitcher for the Clippers. McCarty gave up 7 hits and 3 runs with 4 strike outs. McCarty was the only pitcher of the Clippers 4 pitchers to give up a hit or a run. Matt Koch (2-2) earned the win in relief with 2 shutout innings.
In the 8th inning the Clippers were trailing 3-2 when Andruw Monasterio hit a 2 run single to score Ryan Lavarnway and Oscar Gonzalez. Connor Marabell then scored on a wild pitch from Kyle Zimmer and the Clippers took a 5-3 lead. In the 9th inning Lavarnway hit a 3 run homer scoring Trenton Brooks and Nolan Jones. That sealed the deal for the Clippers and they went on to win 8-3.
That was Lavarnway's 12th home run of the season. Lavarnway now leads the Clippers in home runs on the season. Lavarnway has also been on a 9 game hitting streak, is batting .407 (11-27) for the month with 4 home runs and 8 RBI's. Oscar Gonzalez did well with the stick and went 3 for 5. He had 3 of the team's 13 total hits on the night.
